Totals explained: the threshold, the period and the price
An over/under ticket depends on a specified total and threshold. A game total, team total and player total are different contracts, even when the same word “over” appears.
Identify what is being added
A game-points total usually combines both teams’ points for the named period. A team total counts only one team. A player-points total counts that player’s credited points under the market rules. These quantities can respond differently to the same game.
Record the subject, statistic, period, threshold and odds. “Over 45.5” alone is incomplete: it does not identify what must exceed 45.5 or when the measurement stops.
Compare a whole number with a half point

This uses ordinary two-way grading with a full refund on an exact whole-number tie. A move from 45 to 45.5 changes one settlement boundary. It does not automatically tell you the value of that change; you would need the probability of landing exactly on 45 and the offered prices.
A projection is not an over probability
Two models can have the same mean total while assigning different probabilities to exceeding a threshold. For a simple illustration, a quantity that is always 10 and a quantity that is 0 half the time and 20 half the time both average 10. Their chances of exceeding 9.5 are 100% and 50%, respectively.
Real sports outcomes are more complex, but the distinction is the same. A projected average above a line does not alone specify how often the over should win.
Price still matters after you choose a side
A $20 winning stake at +100 earns $20 profit and returns $40. The same stake at −120 earns about $16.67 profit. The threshold might be identical, but the required break-even rate differs.

Does a high-scoring game make every player over win?
No. Team scoring can be distributed across players and statistics in many ways. Each contract has its own outcome.
Is a half-point line always better?
It depends on the side, the two thresholds and the prices. A more favorable threshold can be offered at a less favorable price.
