Your calculation

A worked example

A $100 stake at +150 earns $150 in profit if it wins. The $250 total return includes the original $100 stake. Decimal odds are 2.50, so the break-even win rate is 1 ÷ 2.50 = 40%.

The math

Profit = stake × (decimal odds − 1). Total return = stake × decimal odds. Break-even probability = 1 ÷ decimal odds.

For positive American odds, decimal odds = 1 + odds ÷ 100. For negative American odds, decimal odds = 1 + 100 ÷ absolute odds.

Common questions

Is profit the same as total return?

No. Profit excludes the stake. Total return includes the original stake plus profit. A $20 bet at +100 has $20 profit and a $40 total return if it wins.

Can I compare different point spreads?

Payout alone cannot compare different lines. A −3.5 spread and a −4.5 spread have different chances of winning. Compare the same market and settlement rules.

Does break-even probability predict the game?

No. It is the win rate required by the price among settled, non-push outcomes. It includes the effect of the offered price and is not a margin-free probability estimate.
