Bet hedge calculator

Inspect the cash stake that approximately equalizes net results across two opposing outcomes.

Cash already risked on the original outcome.
Enter a price of +100 or higher, or −100 or lower.
Price for the only opposing outcome under the same settlement rules.

Your calculation

A worked example

Start with $100 at +300. The opposite outcome is available at −150. The equalizing hedge is $100 × 4.00 ÷ 1.6667 ≈ $240. If the original wins: $300 − $240 = $60 net. If the hedge wins: $160 − $100 = $60 net. This is a hypothetical price scenario, not an available offer.

The math

Equalizing hedge stake = original stake × original decimal odds ÷ opposite decimal odds. Original-win net = original profit − hedge stake. Opposite-win net = hedge profit − original stake.

Common questions

Does hedging always create a profit?

No. If the prices do not support it, equalizing both outcomes can produce a loss. The calculator displays that negative result.

Can this compare two different spreads?

Not reliably. Different spreads can leave a middle, a gap, a push or other settlement states. This model requires exactly two opposing outcomes that cover the whole event.

Is the hedge amount a recommendation?

No. It is the solution to an equal-outcome arithmetic problem under the stated assumptions. The tool does not know your risk preferences or validate whether the quotes are executable.
